CBCA Illawarra and South Coast Annual Children's Literary Lunch 7/8/13
I attended this terrific event in a different capacity this year. Usually I accompany eight of my Year 5 Library Monitors, where we mingle with authors and illustrators, one of whom is seated at our table. This year however, I was on a different table to my students - instead sitting with Gerringong PS Teacher Librarian, Mrs Herbert and some of her students.
We all had a lovely day meeting up with local TLs and authors and illustrators such as Tania McCartney, Frances Watts, Nathan Luff, James Roy, Stephen Measday, Patricia Bernard, Wai Ping Chim.
Each author had to complete a 'speed pitch' for 3 minutes about their writing and I enlisted students in helping me decide which of my current 'works in progress' I should focus on.....whether to continue a story about my mischievous border collie, Buster or the true story of a shipwreck off the beach at Thirroul, which happened in 1898. Votes at present see Buster clearly in front, so apparently, kids don't tire of dog stories!
